Tax & Utility Information

How can I pay my taxes or utilities?
In person at the Municipal office in Letellier  
  • Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Closed for lunch from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm.
  • For after hours’ payments, use the drop box at the front door.

  • Debit/Interac (check with your bank to ensure your limit is high enough for the amount)

Online
  • Use your roll number for tax payments or your utility account number for water bills when setting up the bill payment account. 
  • For this service we have partnered with Manitoba Credit Unions, Scotia Bank Group and BMO.

** When paying online allow 2-3 business days to process. All online payments and cheques must be received before the due date.

 

Utility 

In case of an emergency pertaining to the water system, please call Pierre at (204) 801-4173. 

 

Billing

Water bills are processed quarterly : March 20th, June20th, September 20th and December 20th. 

 

Penalties are applied after the due date at 1.25% per month. 

After 90 days, the overdue amounts, including penalties will be applied to the property taxes.   
 
If you are a tenant, the owner of the property as well as yourself will be sent a copy of the water bill.    
 
If you are moving, the water meter must be read by yourself as well as the new owner or tenant and submitted to the Municipality with forwarding contact information. To read your water meter, you may need to shine a flashlight at the meter for a couple seconds. Often times, the flashlight on cellphones do not work. A final water bill will be forwarded to you. There are penalties charged for late payments of 1.25% per month.

 Tax

Tax Statement information: 

The property owner's name and address which appears on your tax statement is in accordance with the latest information and advice which has been made available to the Municipality. 

It is the owner's responsibility to make sure we have the correct mailing address.  

Tax statements are mailed out in Spring each year. 

  • Tax statements are sent to the address on file
  • If you didn't receive a tax statement, you are still responsible for paying your taxes. 

 

Can I appeal my tax statement? No, but you can appeal the assessed value of the property through the board of revision held every fall for upcoming years. 

 

When are taxes due?

The Rural Municipality of Montcalm property taxes are due on October 31st.

 

What if I'm paying late?

Properties that are in arrears for more than two years are subject to tax sale proceedings.

Penalties of 1% will be added on the first day of the month that taxes are in arrear. 

 

Assessment Information:
Assessment Services is the department responsible for the assessment of all real and personal property in the province, excluding property in the City of Winnipeg. 

In Manitoba, property is assessed at market value in accordance with The Municipal Assessment Act. Market value is the most probable selling price of the property. Regular reassessment ensures that property evaluation keeps pace with real estate market conditions and that property taxes are fair.

Property in Manitoba is grouped into ten property classes on the basis of use with a portion of the assessment being taxed. Property classes and the portion of assessment that is taxed is established by the regulations under The Municipal Assessment Act.
