Letellier Volunteer Fire

The Letellier Volunteer Department was founded in November, 1978. The birth of our department came about as a result of new equipment being purchased for St Jean Baptiste.

Letellier, under the leadership of Mr. Joseph Lavallee, inherited a 1953 home built pumper from our sister department. The organizational meeting in November 1978 resulted in an initial roster of 12 volunteers who organized several fund raising events to purchase much needed equipment. A 1 ton truck was purchased for hauling equipment and in 1983 a new pumper was purchased.

The fire department certainly has evolved over the last 45 years.

We are now full-service fire department with structural and wildland fire capabilities, vehicle extrication and water rescue abilities as well as EMS support when needed.

With this evolution comes the need for education. Our members are continuously educating themselves about the ever-changing needs of the fire service. This is done by taking courses and participating in training exercises. This training includes but is not limited to ICS 100, NFPA Level 1 & 2 Firefighting, NFPA Hazardous Material certification, electric vehicle training, thermal imaging camera training, Aviation incident preparation, and Standard first aid with CPR level C.

A new fire hall and meeting area was built in 2016 for Letellier fire dept. to house the new pumper.  We now have a big meeting room and lots of space for training and storing our equipment.

The equipment now consists of a Ford pumper purchased in 1983, a 1993 Freightliner medium duty rescue unit with 2 Sets of jaws of life, 2016 Acres Pumper, and a 14 foot Zodiak boat, and a John Deere side by side on tracks. The department also has a rescue sled which was donated by local citizens to provide off road winter rescue.

The Letellier and District Volunteer Fire Department is proud to serve the residents in the R.M. of Montcalm and is committed to helping saving lives and properties .

Currently the department is under the direction of Chief Andrew Dixon and has a total compliment of 18 dedicated personnel.
